Please refer to www.sap.com for more information about commercially available editions of SAP NetWeaver.

System Requirements

Please make sure that you meet following system requirements

  • Operating System Windows 7 64 bit Professional (unsupported platform for Trial Installation) or Windows Server 2008
  • JRE 1.4.x or JRE 1.5.x (for installation only, JRE 1.6 is not supported)
  • Hostname must not exceed 13 characters (Full Qualified Domain Name optional)
  • NTFS-File system
  • Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher or Firefox 3.6 or higher
  • Minimum 2 GB RAM (4 GB or more recommended)
  • Virtual Memory: Pagefile size sufficient for installation (16-24 GB recommended).

  • High-resolution monitor (1024×768 or higher, 256 colors)
  • Make sure that no other SAP system or MaxDB is installed on your computer or has registry entries (multiple instances not supported with Trial))
  • The SAP system requires several ports for communication services. Therefore the file %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\services must not include an entry for the ports 3200, 3600, 3900 and 8000. A possible entry can be excluded by using the hash symbol (#). (Note: The entry sapmsNSP 3600 for dialog instances may not exist, as it is set to 0 in Trial versions).

Microsoft Loopback Adapter

If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual network adapter.
For XP see MS Loopback Adapter.
For Windows 7 open the Hardware Wizard (E.g enter “hdwwiz.exe” into Windows Start Menu –> “Run…”) The “Welcome Hardware Wizard” click “Next”, choose “Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)” and click “Next”. Scroll down and choose “Network Adapters”.
Select “Mircosoft” as manufacturer and then Network Adapter “Microsoft Loopback Adapter”. Click Next and finish.
After that maintain your local IP Adress under “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections”.

Installation

To install the system, you must be logged on to your PC with administrator privileges.

Depending on the resources of your computer, the installation may take up to 8 hours. Do not interrupt the procedure. If the installation is interrupted, you may continue the current installation. Repeat the steps and choose “continue old installation”.

Before installing SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP, close all applications. Make sure that no other SAP System is installed on your pc.

  1. Be sure to be logged on with Administrators privileges
  2. Check first the system requirements.
  3. Start the Installer in extract_folder \NWABAPTRIAL70303_64\SAP_NetWeaver_703_Installation_Master\DATA_UNITS\BS2011_IM_WINDOWS_X86_64\sapinst.exe
  4. Choose “SAP Application Server ABAP” –> MaxDB –> Central System –> “Central System”.
  5. Follow the instructions and provide the necessary input in the sapinst dialog wizard.
  6. If you start sapinst the first time, you will be logged off your operating system and afterwards prompted for the installation directory of JRE 1.4.latest or 1.5.0_22 (tested). Do not use 1.6.x! The installation will start, but not finish.
  7. Typically your personal operating system and hardware does not fulfill the recommendations of SAP for the Application Server ABAP and you will be notified by sapinst. Ignore it by pressing “Cancel”. The installer will continue.  For a single user environment PCs are usually sufficient.
  8. If you are prompted for SAPCYPTO.SAR (only available for customers in case you want to enable SSL), deselect installation option or provide library path.
  9. At the end you will get a summary screen. If anything is ok start the installation by pressing “Next”. You will be informed about installation progress  in “Task Progress”  view. logfiles are written in the directory “Program Files\sapinst_instdir”.
  10. After the installation has finished, the application server should be started automatically. You may start and stop the server with the SAP Microsoft Management Console. The Application Server should appear green in your SAP MMC. If it is grey, start the server (SAPNSP) and database (MaxDB and XServer) with Windows Services. If it is yellow, the server starts. If it is stays yellow the setup failed or the database (MaxDB Windows Service NSP, Windows process kernel.exe) is down. If it is red, the license is invalid.
  11. Logon on to your system following the next instructions.
  12. Optionally you may install MaxDB Tools as described in “Getting Started”

Duration of Installation

The installation duration highly depends on your hardware, mainly on your hard disk. It takes up to 8 hours on a laptop, some hours on a PC and half an hour on a server. So maybe consider to run installation over night.

Error handling

In cases of unsuccesful deinstallation it is necessary to remove existing registry entries from old installations by executing the bundled registry clean tool (Additonal Tools) before starting the installer. You must also remove unsuccesful MaxDB Deinstallations from registry. If the problem persists, check the Trials & Downloads discussion forum on SDN.

Uninstalling the Trial version

Sapinst will uninstall the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP Trial Version including all content and optional the database instance, the SAP Management Console, registry entries and OS users.

  1. It is recommend to logon as your system admin OS user.
  2. It is recommended to stop the Application Server before uninstallation.
  3. Open sapinst.exe. Choose “Software Life Cycle Options” –> Uninstall –> Uninstall System.
  4. Provide sapinst.exe with the file location of your system profile directory
  5. Provide the credentials of system (and optional database) users.
  6. Start uninstallation.
